Set up a passkey

Updated June 8, 2026

A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN instead of a password or a code. It's quick, and there's nothing to remember or type. It's no trouble.

Before you start

You need to be signed in to set up a passkey. You also need a device that supports them, such as a recent phone, tablet, or computer with Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or a security key.

A passkey is tied to the device you create it on. Set one up on each device you use often.

Adding a passkey

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Open your account's Security tab.
  3. Open the Passkeys section.
  4. In the Name field, type a label so you'll recognise this device later, like "Work laptop".
  5. Select Create.
  6. Follow the prompt from your device to confirm with your fingerprint, face, or PIN.

When it's done, the passkey appears in the list below the field. You're set.

Signing in with your passkey

Once you have a passkey, the sign-in page uses it for you.

  1. Go to the sign-in page and type your email.
  2. Select Email me a code.
  3. If your account has a passkey, the page shows Use your passkey.
  4. Follow your device's prompt to confirm it's you.

You're in as soon as your device confirms. For the full sign-in walkthrough, read sign in to your account.

Renaming or removing a passkey

Each passkey in the list shows its name and when it was last used.

To remove one, select Delete next to it. Do this if you lose the device or no longer use it. Removing a passkey doesn't lock you out, since you can still sign in with an email code.

My device didn't show a prompt

If nothing popped up when you selected Create, your device or browser may not support passkeys, or the feature may be switched off.

Try a different browser, or update your device. You can still use NoTrouble without a passkey by signing in with an email code.

The passkey wouldn't save

You may see "Something went wrong generating the passkey." This can happen if you cancel the device prompt or it times out.

Select Create again and confirm the prompt this time. Make sure your device's screen lock, like Touch ID or a PIN, is turned on.

My passkey won't sign me in

At sign-in you may see "No passkey was selected." or "We could not verify your passkey." This often means you cancelled the prompt, or you're on a device that doesn't have your passkey.

Select Try again, or select Email me a code instead to sign in with a code. Then add a passkey on this device too.

What's normal here

It's normal for a passkey to work on one device but not another. Passkeys don't travel unless your device syncs them for you. Adding a passkey per device fixes this.

It's also normal to still get the email-code option. A passkey is an extra way in, not the only way. You can always fall back to a code.
