Switch your plan

Updated June 8, 2026

Already on a paid plan and want to move up or down? Use the in-app Change Plan button to switch between Free, Pro, and Team. It's no trouble, and this page shows you when each change kicks in. New to the tiers? See plans and what each one includes to compare them first.

Before you start

You need to be signed in to the account you want to change, and you need permission to manage its billing. If you're on a paid plan with a card on file, you're set. No card yet? See add or update your payment method first. Moving up bills you right away; moving down waits until the end of the period you've paid for.

How do I change my plan inside the app?

  1. Open your Billing page.
  2. On the Your Plan card, select Change Plan.
  3. A Choose your plan window opens with Free, Pro, and Team. Your current plan shows a Current badge.
  4. Next to the plan you want, select its button. It says Upgrade for a higher plan or Switch for a lower one.
  5. Read the short summary, then select the button that confirms it.

You'll see a green Done message at the top of the page once the change goes through.

Where is the Change Plan button?

It's on your Billing page, on the Your Plan card. Look in the row of buttons at the bottom of that card, beside Cancel Subscription. The button is labeled Change Plan. (Want to stop your plan instead of switching it? See cancel your subscription.)

You only see it if you're on a plan you can change and you have billing permission. If a plan change is already scheduled, the button is hidden until that change takes effect or you cancel it.

What's the difference between Upgrade and Switch?

In the Choose your plan window, each plan has one button, and its label tells you what kind of change it is:

  • Upgrade means moving to a higher plan, like Free to Pro, or Pro to Team. This takes effect right away.
  • Switch means moving to a lower plan, like Team to Pro, or any plan down to Free. This waits until the end of your billing period.

The window says it plainly at the top: "Upgrades take effect right away. Downgrades apply at the end of your billing period."

When does an upgrade take effect, and will I be charged?

An upgrade is immediate. The moment you confirm, your new plan and its features turn on.

You're charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current billing period. Prorated means you only pay for the days left, not a full month or year. The confirmation step tells you this before you commit: "Your upgrade takes effect immediately. You'll be charged a prorated amount for the rest of this billing period."

After it goes through, you'll see "Your plan was upgraded. The change is effective immediately."

When does a switch to a lower plan take effect?

A switch down waits until the end of the period you've already paid for. You keep your current plan and all its features until that date. Your Your Plan card then shows a Plan change scheduled note with the date you'll move.

Why can't I see the Change Plan button?

A few reasons this can happen:

  • You may not have billing permission for this account. Ask the account owner to make the change, or to give you billing access.
  • You may not have an active paid plan yet. If you're starting from Free with no subscription, you pick a plan through checkout instead. See upgrade to a paid plan.
  • You may already have a plan change scheduled. The button hides while a change is pending. On the Plan change scheduled note, select Keep my current plan to cancel it, and the Change Plan button comes back.

Why can't I pick my current plan?

In the Choose your plan window, the plan you're on now shows a Current badge. Its button is greyed out and reads Current plan, so you can't select it. That's on purpose: there's nothing to switch when you're already on it.

To make a change, pick a different plan from the list. The other plans have an Upgrade or Switch button you can select.

It says "We couldn't change your plan." What now?

This message means the change didn't go through, so nothing changed and your current plan stays as is. Try the change again. If it keeps failing, contact our support team and we'll sort it out. Reply to any billing email from us, or use the in-app help.

My bank asked me to confirm the payment

When you upgrade, your bank may add an extra security check before it lets the prorated charge through. If that happens, you're sent to a confirmation page. Your bank shows the step, often a code by text or a tap in your banking app. Finish it, and you'll come back to your Billing page. This is normal and means your bank is protecting you.

Can I cancel a scheduled switch?

Yes. While a switch to a lower plan is pending, your Your Plan card shows a Plan change scheduled note with a Keep my current plan button. That button cancels the switch and keeps you where you are. For the full steps, and what to do if the cancel doesn't go through, see a plan change is scheduled.
