Reviews are the fastest way to show a new visitor that real people trust you. On a Pro plan, we can pull your Google reviews onto your profile and help you ask happy customers for more. And if you've collected praise elsewhere, like a kind email or a comment from another site, you can add those by hand on any plan, free included. Here's how each piece fits together.
Before you start
At a glance: adding testimonials by hand is free. Pulling in Google reviews and asking customers for reviews are both Pro.
Two different things share the word "reviews" here, and they work on different plans:
- Showing reviews on your profile uses a Reviews section. It pulls in the reviews from your Google Business Profile, so you need that connection set up first. Connecting Google is a Pro feature.
- Asking for reviews sends customers a link by email, SMS, or QR code so they can leave you feedback. That's a Pro feature too, called Ask for Reviews.
On a free plan you can still add testimonials by hand. Jump to Show testimonials you collected yourself at the end of this article, no upgrade needed.
You also need permission to edit the profile you're working on. If you own it or manage it, you're set.
Where do my reviews come from?
Every review on your profile comes from your Google Business Profile. We sync them in for you, then show them in a Reviews section. There's no field to type a review in by hand, so connecting Google is the first step.
So the order is: connect Google first, let your reviews sync, then add a Reviews section to put them on your profile. If you haven't connected Google yet, a Reviews section has nothing to show.
To link your Google account and pull your reviews in, see connect your Google Business Profile.
Add a Reviews section to your profile
A Reviews section shows your synced Google reviews as cards, with the star rating, the reviewer's name, and what they wrote.
- From your profiles list, find the profile and choose Edit In Designer to open it in the Designer.
- In the left panel, select Add section.
- A grid of section types opens. Under the Automatic group, choose Reviews.
- The section appears on your profile right away, filled with your synced reviews.
The Automatic group holds sections that fill themselves from your data, so a Reviews section needs no posts added by hand. Publish your profile when you're happy, so visitors see it.
My Reviews section is empty
An empty Reviews section means there are no synced reviews to show yet. A few things cause this:
- Google isn't connected. The section pulls from Google Business Profile, so connect that first.
- You connected, but no reviews have synced yet. A fresh connection can take a little while to pull your reviews in. Give it some time, then check again.
- Your Google listing has no reviews. If nobody has reviewed you on Google, there's nothing to show. Asking customers for reviews is the next step (more below).
A section with nothing in it may not appear to visitors at all, so don't worry if it's hidden until reviews land.
Ask customers for a review
The Ask for Reviews tool sends customers a link where they can rate you and leave feedback. It's a Pro feature.
- In the main menu, select Reviews. The icon is a star.
- Open the Ask for Reviews tab.
- You'll see your review link, a ready-made SMS message, and an email form. Pick whichever way suits you (each one is covered below).
If you're not on Pro, this page shows an upgrade panel instead. You can read what the feature does, then upgrade your plan to turn it on.
Send a review request by email
Email is the only method we send for you and can chase up later.
- Go to Reviews, then the Ask for Reviews tab.
- In the Send via Email form, fill in Client Name and Client Email.
- The Message is filled in for you. Merge fields like [Client Name] and [Business Name] swap in the real values. Edit the wording if you like, or leave it.
- To chase up non-responders, tick Auto-Reminder. It sends one follow-up email three days later if you've heard nothing back.
- Select Send Email.
You'll see "Review request sent successfully", and the request shows up in the list with a status you can track.
Share a review link or QR code
Not every customer wants an email. You can hand them a link or a code instead.
- Review link: at the top of the Ask for Reviews tab, your review link sits in a copyable box. Select the copy icon and paste it into a text, a chat, or anywhere you like.
- SMS message: a ready-made message sits below the link. Select Copy to copy it, or Open to start a text on your phone with the message already typed.
- QR code: select QR Code at the top of the page. A code opens that you can download for print. Pick Print (300 dpi) for posters or receipts, then Download QR Code. Stick it on your counter, your packaging, or a business card.
The link, SMS, and QR code all point to the same review page, so use whichever reaches your customers best.
What happens after a customer leaves a review?
When a customer opens your review link, they pick a star rating and can add a comment. What happens next depends on the rating:
- Happy customers (4 or 5 stars) get a thank-you with a Post a Review on Google button, so their kind words land where new customers will see them. That button only appears if your Google review link has synced in from your Google Business Profile.
- Less happy customers get a private thank-you instead. Their feedback comes straight to you, not to Google, so you can put things right before it goes public.
Either way, you get notified, and email requests update to show that feedback came in. This keeps your public reviews positive while making sure you never miss a problem.
Why does the "Post a Review on Google" button not show?
That button needs your Google review link, which syncs in from your Google Business Profile. Without it, happy customers still see a thank-you, but there's no Google button to tap.
Connect your Google Business Profile so the link syncs in. Once it's linked, the button appears for high ratings on its own.
Why is the review link showing a "not found" page?
The public review page only works for profiles on a Pro plan, since Ask for Reviews is a Pro feature. If your plan doesn't include it, the link leads to a "not found" page.
Upgrade to Pro to turn the feature on, and the link starts working. If you've already upgraded, make sure you copied the link from the Ask for Reviews tab on the right profile.
Show testimonials you collected yourself
A Reviews section only shows synced Google reviews, so it can't hold a quote you gathered elsewhere, like a kind email or a comment from another site. To show those, you add them by hand.
Add a regular content section instead and write the quotes as posts:
- Open your profile in the Designer.
- Select Add section, then pick a type that fits, like FAQ for question-and-answer style, Gallery for screenshots of praise, or a text-based one for plain quotes.
- Add a post for each testimonial and type in the quote and who said it. See add a post to a section for the steps.
This is the only way to show testimonials you didn't get through Google. For the full picture of section types and ordering, see add and arrange sections.
