If your profile feels generic, dark, or "not you", this is the page that fixes it. We'll go through the Designer in order: colors, then style, then layout, fonts, and your logo. By the end your profile will look like your brand, not the default. Nothing goes public until you publish, so you can try the whole pass and only keep what you like.
Before you start
You make all of these changes in the Designer, the panel where you change how your profile looks. You need a profile already made. None of this needs a paid plan.
Worth having ready before you start:
- Your brand colors. If you know your exact color codes (the six-character codes like
#1A73E8), keep them handy. - Your logo, ideally a PNG with a see-through background.
- A good avatar or cover photo, if you want the colors pulled straight from your images.
To open the Designer, open your profile and select Edit In Designer. The left sidebar is headed Designer, and a live preview of your profile fills the rest of the screen.
One thing to know first
Your profile has no separate "light mode / dark mode" switch. Whether it looks light or dark comes from your Page color, which you set in Step 1. Whatever you chose at signup, you can change every part of it in the Designer, and that's what the rest of this article does.
Step 1: Set your brand colors
Colors do the most work, so start here. They live in the Colors panel.
- In the left sidebar, select Colors (the swatchbook icon).
- The panel opens on the Simple tab, with two colors: Page and Accent.
- Under Page, select the swatch. A color window opens. To set your background, type or paste
your color code into the text box (it shows
#000000until you change it). A typed code applies in the preview once you press Enter or click outside the box; picks from the swatches or color area apply right away. Close the window by clicking outside it or pressing Escape. On a phone, tap Select to confirm. - Under Accent, do the same to set the color for your buttons and highlights.
As you set a background, we pick readable text to sit on it for you. Set a light Page color to make your whole profile light; set a dark one to keep it dark. The preview repaints so you can see it.
For the full walkthrough, including the Pro tab that controls every surface, see change your profile's colors.
Pull your colors from your logo or photo
Don't know your exact codes? Let us read them from an image. If you've added a logo, avatar, or cover, scroll down to Palettes in that same panel. Select From Logo, From Avatar, From Cover, or Brand to apply that whole set at once. There are curated palettes below those too. From Logo is the fast way to match your brand when your logo carries your colors. Brand is the one exception here. It holds the colors we read from your website at signup, so it only shows if we found some. That's the address you gave us, or a best guess from your work email's domain.
If a palette source is missing, you haven't added that image yet. Add your logo (Step 5 below) or your avatar or cover first, then reopen the Colors panel.
Step 2: Choose a style that fits your brand
A style sets the whole mood: the corners, shadows, borders, and feel. There are six, and their names don't mean what you'd guess, so here's what each one really is.
- In the left sidebar, select Styles (the droplet icon).
- The panel opens on the Style tab. Select the box showing the current style's name.
- Pick from the six:
- Clean: plain and minimal, no effects. Lets your content lead.
- Modern: a Material-design feel with medium-round corners and semi-bold text. Good for tech, startups, and agencies.
- Scattered: a photos-on-a-desk look with tilted cards and warm shadows. Personal and warm.
- Frosted: a glass look with soft, see-through surfaces and light text. Elegant.
- Bold: neubrutalism. Thick borders, high contrast, big type. Loud and memorable.
- Dimension: skeuomorphism. Layered shadows and surfaces for a rich, tactile depth. Suits premium and luxury brands.
The preview repaints with each pick. Picking a style also applies that style's matched fonts, corners, and text size, so set your style before you fine-tune fonts. For more on each style and its extra knobs, see choose a style for your profile.
Step 3: Choose your layout
Layout sets how the page is arranged: where your cover sits, how your avatar and name appear, and how your content flows. This lives in the Theme panel, which holds layouts only.
- In the left sidebar, select Theme (the palette icon).
- Scroll the layout previews and stop on the one you want. It snaps into place and applies.
There are six, from a classic top-to-bottom Foundation to a full-screen Spotlight cover. The right one depends on whether your brand leans on a big cover image or on tidy content. See choose a layout for your profile for what each one does.
Step 4: Fine-tune your fonts
Fonts carry a lot of brand feel. Set them after your style, since picking a style applies its own matched fonts.
- In the left sidebar, select Styles.
- Select the Fonts tab.
- Set your Heading Font and Body Font, the weight of each, and the Font size.
A distinctive heading font with a plainer body font usually reads best. Corners and scroll animations live on the Options tab in the same panel. Full detail is in change your fonts and text size.
Step 5: Add your logo
Your logo sits at the top of your profile, next to your name. It's a strong brand signal, so add it.
- In the left sidebar, find the Header layer near the top and select the pencil icon.
- In the Header panel, turn on Show logo.
- Select Select to open the Choose Media window, then upload your logo.
A PNG with a see-through background looks sharpest. Bonus: when you upload a logo, we read a color palette from it, which shows up as From Logo back in the Colors panel. The full guide is add your logo to your profile. Want to shape your profile photo to match? See shape and style your avatar.
Step 6: Publish your new look
Everything so far is a private preview. To make it real, publish.
- Select Publish profile (or Publish changes) in the top toolbar to go live.
- Not ready? Open the toolbar's save menu and select Save as draft to keep your edits private.
Before you publish, it's worth checking how your brand reads on a phone. You can preview your design and reset to defaults across device sizes.
I set colors at signup, so why is my profile still dark?
The color step at signup only sets where you begin, and the default look is dark. Your profile shows as light or dark based on your Page color, and there's no separate switch for it. To go light, open the Colors panel, set a light Page color (or apply a light palette under Palettes), then publish. The preview flips to light right away when the page color is light enough.
My brand color looks slightly off
The color window expects a six-character code that starts with #, like #1A73E8. If you typed it
without the #, or missed a character, the window keeps the old color. Reopen the Page or
Accent swatch and type the full code into the text box. The right code applies in the preview
once you press Enter or click outside the box. If the color is right but your text is hard to read on
it, open the Pro tab in
Colors, expand that surface, and adjust its Foreground color until the text stands out.
I picked a style and my fonts changed
That's on purpose. Choosing a style applies that style's matched fonts, weight, corners, and text size so the whole look stays in tune. Set your style first, then go to the Fonts and Options tabs to set the fonts you want.
My colors or style didn't change in the preview
The preview repaints after each pick, so give it a second. If it still looks stuck, your edits are safe. Use the Undo button (the curved arrow in the top toolbar) and try again, or refresh the page. Publish or save a draft once it looks right so the change is kept.
I want to start over
If your brand pass went sideways, you can reset the whole look in one move. In the left sidebar footer, select Reset to defaults, and the profile returns to its starting design. Your content stays put; only the look resets. Then work through the steps above again from a clean slate. The preview and reset article covers the full reset flow and how to undo a reset.
