Add and adjust your avatar and cover image

Updated June 8, 2026

Your avatar is your profile photo, and your cover is the wide image (or video) behind your name. Both make a strong first impression. You can upload them, crop them, and adjust how they sit. The preview updates as you go, and nothing is public until you publish.

Before you start

The avatar and cover live in the Designer, the panel where you change how your profile looks. You need a profile already made. Have your image ready: a clear, well-lit photo or logo works best.

Opening the avatar panel

  1. Open your profile.
  2. Select Edit In Designer.
  3. In the left sidebar, find the Avatar layer and select the pencil icon next to it.

The Avatar panel opens with the upload area at the top and the design controls below.

Uploading your avatar

  1. In the upload area, select Select.
  2. The Choose Media window opens.
  3. Select Upload to add a new image, or pick one you've used before.

You can also drag an image straight onto the upload area. Once it's in, you'll see it in the preview. There's a size limit per file, shown in the Choose Media window.

Cropping your avatar

  1. With an image set, select the crop icon at the top-right corner of the image.
  2. The Crop image window opens.
  3. Drag and zoom to frame your face or logo, then confirm.

The crop keeps your avatar square so it fits every avatar shape cleanly.

Adjusting how your avatar looks

Below the upload area you'll find the design controls:

  • Size: drag the slider to make your avatar bigger or smaller.
  • Format: choose Circle, Square, or Logo. Circle suits people, Square suits brands, and Logo shows the image as-is with no crop (best for see-through PNG logos).
  • Style: choose Standard, Outline (a colored ring), Blur (a soft background blur), or Transparent. When you set a new avatar and save, we remove the background for you, so Transparent shows only you or your logo with no backdrop, even from a normal photo. The cut-out runs in the background after you publish or save, so it takes a moment to appear.
  • Show avatar: turn this off to hide your avatar entirely.
  • Background: set a fill color behind your avatar, handy for logos and transparent images.

The preview repaints as you change each one.

Opening the cover panel

  1. In the left sidebar, find the Cover layer and select the pencil icon next to it.

The Cover panel opens.

Choosing your cover type

At the top of the Cover panel, Cover type sets what kind of cover you want:

  • Image: a photo behind your name.
  • Video: a moving background from a link or an uploaded file.
  • None: no cover at all.

Uploading a cover image

  1. Set Cover type to Image.
  2. Select Select and pick or upload your image in the Choose Media window, or drag one in.
  3. Use the crop icon at the top-right of the image to frame it. Covers crop to a wide shape.

Using a cover video

  1. Set Cover type to Video.
  2. Paste a link in the Video URL field (YouTube, Vimeo, or a direct mp4 or webm link).
  3. Or, under Or upload a video, select Select to upload your own video file.

Adjusting how your cover sits

With a cover set, you'll find these controls below it:

  • Height: drag the slider to set how tall the cover is. Turn on Automatic to let NoTrouble size it for you.
  • Opacity: drag to fade the cover. The percentage shows on the right.
  • Fit: choose how the image fills its space.
  • Alignment: choose which part of the image stays in view.
  • Background: set a fill color shown behind or around the cover.

Saving your images

Your uploads and tweaks stay a preview until you publish.

  • Select Publish profile (or Publish changes) in the top toolbar to go live.
  • Or open the toolbar's save menu and select Save as draft to keep your edits private for now.

My image won't upload

Most uploads that fail are either too large or the wrong type. The Choose Media window shows the size limit per file, so check your file is under it. Use a common image type like JPG or PNG for photos, and mp4 or webm for video. If it still won't go, try a smaller version of the file.

My avatar looks blurry or cut off

A small image stretched large will look soft. Upload the biggest, clearest version you have. If your face or logo is cut off, select the crop icon at the top-right of the image and reframe it in the Crop image window.

My cover video isn't playing

Make sure the link is a YouTube or Vimeo page, or a direct link ending in .mp4 or .webm. A page that needs a login, or a private video, won't play. If a pasted link won't work, upload the video file directly under Or upload a video instead.

My profile is using the wrong colors after adding an image

When you add an avatar or cover, we build a color palette from it that you can apply in the Colors panel. Adding the image doesn't change your colors on its own. To use those colors, open Colors and pick From Avatar or From Cover. See change your profile's colors.
