Help AI assistants find and recommend your profile

More and more people ask an AI assistant like ChatGPT or Claude for a recommendation instead of searching Google. We can put your profile in front of those assistants, so when someone asks for "a wedding photographer in Austin," yours is one they can find and suggest. This guide shows you how to switch it on and make your profile one they'll pick. It's no trouble.

Before you start

A few quick notes so you know what to expect:

Any plan works. This is free. It's different from connecting your own AI tool, which needs a paid plan. This one is about outside assistants finding your public profile.
Your profile has to be published. Assistants can only find a live profile.
Only your public content is ever shared. Nothing private or unpublished is exposed.

Turn on AI discovery so assistants can find you

This is the switch that opens the door. Until it's on, AI assistants can't see your profile at all.

Open your profile settings.
Under Visibility & Features, find the MCP Available toggle. (In the Designer settings dialog, the same switch is labelled AI discovery (MCP).)
Turn it on.
Select Save changes at the bottom. You'll see a short "Settings saved." confirmation.

That's the one required step. Everything below helps assistants find you and recommend you, but this toggle is what gets you in the door.

Pick a profile type and subcategory that match what you do

Assistants sort profiles by Type (Personal, Local Business, Organization, or Brand) and Subcategory (like "wedding photographer" or "yoga studio"). When someone asks for your kind of work, the assistant filters to that subcategory first. If yours is blank or wrong, you're not in the shortlist.

Open the Designer and set your Type and Subcategory to the closest match for what you actually do. There's a full walk-through in choosing your profile type. Getting this right is one of the biggest things you can do to get found.

Write a bio that tells an assistant what you do

Assistants read your bio to understand you and to match you to real questions. A vague bio like "living my best life" gives them nothing to match. A clear one does the work for you.

Say, in plain words, what you do, who you help, and where. For example: "I'm a family photographer in Austin, Texas. I shoot newborn, maternity, and family sessions." That single sentence answers a dozen questions an assistant might get asked. See writing your bio for more.

Add content and tags about your expertise

Assistants look past your bio too. They also search the posts and sections inside your profile. So the more real content you have about your work, the more questions you can turn up for.

Add sections and posts that cover your services, work, or topics you know well.
Tag your posts with the words people would use to look for that work. Tags feed topic search, so an assistant looking for "sourdough classes" can find your tagged post.

Think of each post as another door people can walk through to reach you.

Keep your links and contact details complete

Finding you is only half the job. For an assistant to actually recommend you, it needs somewhere to send people. Make sure your profile has your working links, your booking or contact option, and your social accounts. A complete profile is a profile an assistant can confidently pass along.

What assistants see when AI discovery is on

When the toggle is on, two things happen for AI assistants. They can reach your profile through NoTrouble's directory, and your public content is served in a clean, agent-friendly format so they read it with less guesswork. Some assistants may also use your content to ground their answers or to train on.

They only ever get your published, public content: your name, bio, links, socials, and the sections and posts you've made live. Drafts, private notes, and anything unpublished stay out of it.

Do I need a paid plan to be found by AI?

No. Being found and recommended by AI assistants is free on every plan. You only need a published profile with MCP Available turned on.

Don't mix this up with connecting your own AI tool to manage your profile, which is a paid feature. That one lets you edit your profile by chatting with Claude or ChatGPT. This one is about other people's assistants finding you. They're separate, and turning one on doesn't affect the other.

I turned it on but assistants still don't find me

If an assistant can't find you yet, work through these in order. Most of the time it's one of them.

Check you're published. An unpublished profile can't be found, even with the toggle on. Confirm your profile is live.
Give it a little time. After you publish or change your profile, it takes a while to be added to the directory assistants search. This isn't instant.
Set your Type and Subcategory. If these are blank, assistants can't match you to a request. See choosing your profile type.
Make your bio and content specific. If your bio doesn't say what you do, there's nothing for an assistant to match. Name your work, your specialty, and your area.

Also worth knowing: assistants don't all share one list. One may know about you before another does, and results change from day to day. That's normal.

Is this the same as showing up on Google?

No, they're two separate channels with two separate switches. Search Engines controls Google and other search engines. MCP Available controls AI assistants. You can turn on one, the other, or both.

How do I stop AI assistants from using my profile?

You're in control, and you can close the door any time. Open your profile settings, find MCP Available under Visibility & Features, turn it off, and select Save changes.

From then on, AI assistants can't reach your profile through NoTrouble, and the agent-friendly version of your content stops being served. Your profile stays exactly as it is for your human visitors.
