A Product section shows off what you sell. Each product gets an image, name, brand, and price, plus a button. By default that button sends shoppers to your own store to buy. People browse here and check out there. It's no trouble.

Before you start

You need to own the profile you're editing. You'll also want the web address of each product on your own store, like your Etsy, Shopify, or any other shop page. By default that link is what the product button opens, so have your shop links handy before you start.

Add a Product section

A section is a typed container on your profile. A Product section holds your products and lays them out as cards.

  1. Open your profile in the Designer. From your profiles list, find the profile and choose Edit In Designer.
  2. In the left panel, select Add section.
  3. Under Show your work, choose Product.

The new section appears on your profile, and its editor opens so you can name it and pick a layout. For step-by-step help with sections, see add and arrange sections.

Choose how your products are laid out

A Product section can show its cards in six layouts. Pick the one that fits how many products you have and how you want them to read.

To switch layouts, select the section on the stage, then use the Format control in the toolbar. It lists the layouts that fit a Product section:

  • Grid: products in even rows and columns. Good for a tidy catalog.
  • Feature: the first product is large and stands out. The rest fill a smaller grid around it.
  • Carousel: a row that scrolls sideways. Products snap into place as you swipe.
  • List: products stacked one per row.
  • Stacked: a deck of cards you flip through, one at a time.
  • Masonry: a staggered, mosaic-style grid.

You can switch the layout any time, so it's worth trying a couple to see which looks best.

Add a product

Each product is a post inside your Product section. Add one product per post.

  1. In the Designer's left panel, find your Product section.
  2. On that section's row, select the plus button. This adds a product and opens its editor.
  3. Fill in the fields (below).
  4. Select Done to close the editor.

Your product is saved with the rest of your changes when you select the publish button at the top. It reads Publish changes when your profile is already live. For more on adding posts, see add a post to a section.

What the product form asks for

A product card is built around its Product Name and Regular Price, so they're the two fields worth filling in first. In the Designer you can leave them blank and still save, then come back later. Every field is optional here, so add what helps a shopper decide:

  • Product Image: a photo of the product.
  • Product Name: what it's called. The card's main heading.
  • Brand: the maker or label, shown above the name.
  • Short Description: a one-line summary.
  • Full Description: a longer write-up.
  • Button label and Button link: where you set the button that opens your store. See the next section.
  • Regular Price: the normal price the card shows.
  • Sale Price: a lower price to show instead. Leave it blank if the product isn't on sale.
  • Sale Expiry Date: when the sale ends. Leave it blank for a sale with no end date.

Send shoppers to your store

By default, the product button links out to your shop. You set it on the Button label and Button link fields in the product editor.

  1. In the product editor, scroll to Button label and Button link.
  2. In Button link, enter your store's web address for this product. This is the page the button opens.
  3. In Button label, type what the button should say, like Buy on Etsy or Shop now. Leave it blank and the button reads View Product.

Once you publish, the product card shows a button with your label. A shopper who taps it lands on your store page, where they buy. We don't take the payment in this setup; your store does.

The Button link is the one the product button uses. Any extra links you add elsewhere in the editor don't show on the product card.

Want shoppers to pay on NoTrouble instead?

You can take payment right on your profile, no outside store needed. When you've set up accepting payments through Stripe, the product card shows a Buy button that checks out in NoTrouble instead of opening your store link. Accepting payments is a Team plan feature; see choose the right plan. If you'd like step-by-step setup help and it isn't here yet, let our team know so we can add it.

Show a sale price

When a product is on sale, the card shows the lower price with the regular price crossed out next to it, plus a small discount badge like -20%.

  1. Open the product editor.
  2. In Sale Price, enter the lower price.
  3. In Sale Expiry Date, pick the day the sale ends. The sale runs until the start of that day. Leave it blank if the sale has no end date.
  4. Select Done, then publish your changes.

The sale price shows as long as it's above zero and the expiry date hasn't passed. Once that date passes, the card goes back to the Regular Price on its own. You don't have to change anything.

For more on changing a product's prices later, see edit, duplicate, or delete a post.

My product won't save and the price field is highlighted

The Regular Price and Sale Price must be a number. If you typed letters or a currency symbol, the save is blocked and the price field is flagged. Open the product, clear that field, and enter digits only, like 19.99. No $ or other symbols. Then save again.

You don't have to fill in the price to save. In the Designer a blank price is fine, so you can leave it and come back. It's a typed-in value that isn't a number that stops the save.

My product card has no button

The store button only appears when you've set a link for it. Open the product, scroll to Button link, and put your store's web address in that box. Publish, and the button shows up on the card.

The address must start with a scheme like https:// (http:// works too). If yours doesn't, the save is blocked and the Button link field is flagged. Add https:// to the front of the address and save again.

My product saved but doesn't show on my live profile

A product stays hidden from visitors when any of these is true:

  • The product is set to unpublished. Open it in the Designer and turn its Published switch on, then publish your changes.
  • The Product section is hidden. In the Designer's left panel, select the eye button on the section's row to show it.
  • The profile itself isn't published yet. A product only shows once its profile, section, and the product post are all live. See publish your profile and save drafts.
